Here are some sweet photos of Regina & Scott's maternity session. I've already photographed and posted the photos of their precious son, Noah, on facebook so check back soon to see those as well. Maternity and newborn sessions are two of my favorites! First, I think pregnant women are beautiful and Second, I think being a new parent and having a new baby in your home is one of those priceless moments that HAS to be captured because (i hear) its over before you know it! These are the reasons I love this job. Photography is so important at these milestone stages of your life.

First Birthdays

In December I got to photograph two very special little boys and their families during their first birthday parties. This first little boy belongs to one of my best friends, Kelli and her wonderful husband, Matt. He was a ham on his 1st birthday and I swear there were like 30 people at his party. It looked like Toys R' US threw up in their living room. :)

This next little sweetness is my adorable nephew Benjamin on his first birthday with his big sister Sarah. These two are my life and although I don't get to see them as often as I'd like due to my crazy work schedule, I love them more than words can describe. Watching Ben grow up is so interesting because he is VERY different from his big sister. Pretty soon Ben is going to be sticking up for himself so that should make things pretty different at my brother's house. In the meantime, Ben is so sweet and I'm sure he loves his big sister although he gives her some of the meanest looks ever. Sarah definitely picks on Ben and she is quite the handful sometimes. Some say that is just the difference between a boy & a girl. I love them regardless. :)

I don't know how time slips away so quickly! Its almost February and although I'm great about editing client photos and updating facebook, I'm the worst about keeping up with my blog! Maybe one day for this baby arrives I'll get caught up! ...maybe...

Back in November we had a little visit from our goddaughter Ansley. Her mom is my childhood friend Megan. Kevin & Megan are one of the sweetest, most thoughtful couples I know so I know Ansley will grow up to be the same. I adore Ansley's expressions and she looks a lot like Megan and Megan's dad! Its crazy.

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE repeat customers? Well, I do! I love seeing families months, even a year or more after I photograph them. I love seeing how much the kids have grown and knowing that I've helped capture these milestones. In the spring, I photographed Perri, her husband and the two boys. For Christmas, they decided to do an extended family photo so Perri's sister-in-law, Rachel, set up an extended family session for Christmas. Including two of the grandmothers and the cousins. I adore extended family sessions. Its probably because I've never had any of my own since our extended family is across the northeast. I just think these photos are priceless.

The fall was a very busy time for Split Second Photography but its also my favorite time of year! I love taking all of the family photos and seeing all the sweet kiddos who grow up so fast. I know I'm really late posting the next several posts that you will see but better late than never, right? At least my clients got their photos in a timely fashion and that's all that really matters :)

At the end of October, I had the pleasure of driving up to the north side of Ga, near the mountains for a couple of family sessions. This property belongs to the Skelly family and Kristen's dad was nice enough to let us use his space for their family photos. I just loved this piece of land, it was so peaceful! And how beautiful is this family? :)

Much to my surprise, there are some positives for being behind on my blog - 1) I get to look at my work that I haven't looked at since editing, burning the CD and shipping it off 2) I get to revisit all the happy moments in these images and then share them with you!

2 posts in a row of beautiful families! This one is of the English Family. I have known them for about a year and we met through a friend. I've grown really close to Alison and am very thankful that we met. Its so nice to find a good friend as an adult. Its really not that easy to do! I'd also like to point out how crazy I am about little Charlotte. She has red hair and I always say she is in my red head club. :) I've always wanted a red headed child and although I used to be scared of having a girl, some recent trials have changed this. I would be blessed to have any healthy child, I truly mean that, having a red head would just be the icing on the cake!

Their precious angel, Sadie Jane, was turning one that weekend and so I captured this milestone while also getting some great family shots that I am sure they will always treasure. When my good friend Kelli contacted me about the idea of doing a generation photo with her Memaw (mom's mom), her mom & her son, Nolan - I thought it was fantastic! What better way to capture the memories of extended family with your kids when they are little (or big, for that matter). Family is so important and this session made me think about how great it would be to have the opportunity for my kids to know my Nana (my mom's mom & only living grandparent). I hope we have this opportunity but in the meantime - pull out your camera and take photos of your kids with family members or better yet, hire me to do it! ;)

I love this family, they are some of the sweetest, most genuine people I know.

I can't believe sweet Vera is already 3 months old (actually now she is 4 months old) but I took these photos back in September. I adore her sweet facial expressions. Such a sweet baby girl. & isn't Aubrey gorgeous!? I hope I look as great as her only after a few months of having a baby!! Incredible.

The joys of photographing your friends is that you can typically talk them into things with just a "look" or a "puppy dog face" easier than you can clients. :) I took these photos of Lauren & Rian over Labor Day Weekend. We enjoyed a relaxing weekend in a cabin in North Ga and while we were there we wandered (& by wandered I mean "drove down the steep mountain") to this creek. I loved this spot. I talked Lauren getting into the water and let the truth be known that I got in too!! We were both soaked (she was more soaked than me since she walked/swam across). Wasn't it worth getting soaked for? Yeah, I thought so too! The things I'll do for a good shot. Great times and now they have these photos to remember this special time.

I have found one of my new favorite places to photograph families on the west side of town and its great! It was very convenient for the Jones family & I to meet and we had a fun afternoon playing with the kids. Aren't they the sweetest boys? I have known Anna since my freshman year of college and it was a pleasure to have photographed her beautiful family!!

Back at the end of June (pre-surgery) I spent a couple of hours with the Whitehurst family and photographed their son Nathan who turned one at the end of May. It was a beautiful afternoon (before the heat really set in this summer) and I had a great time! Nathan was running around and playing with his toys. Sometimes clients ask me if we should meet at a local spot (like a park) or at their home and these photos show how much fun a home session can be! Nathan was in his element and very comfortable. :) I love photographing kids reaching their milestones. Turning 1 is such a special time to capture! Looking forward to all of the children sessions I have booked over the next few months. I think there are 5 sessions for one year old birthdays! yay!

Vera - 14 days

I know I promised more blogging and photo posts but recovery has been harder than I thought. I've been having some throbbing pain since surgery that has distracted me...just when I thought I was getting better. Only a few more weeks of recovery and then back to my busy-bee life! yay! Can't wait.

Nolan - 6 months

Since I am at home recovering from surgery, there will be a lot of blogging and updates. I am finally able to move around by myself. I am sitting up for short periods of time and I get stronger every day.
I took these photos of Nolan about a month ago now. I'm horrible at keeping up with the blog and I plan on getting better about that. Facebook seems to be my go-to spot to update photos since everyone can see my work more easily there.

Nolan is such a ham in-front of the camera and he did a bunch of funny stuff including twisting his body like a contortionist. Sorry Matt, I think he is more likely to be a gymnast then play baseball. haha.
I also think Kelli looks beautiful in these photos. What a good looking family!

Bratcher Family

I was honored to spend some time with the Bratcher family a few weeks ago while Frank was home for a week from Afghanistan. They are such a beautiful family!! I can't imagine how hard it is to have a loved one away fighting for our country. A special thanks to Frank, Cara & precious little Layla for the fun afternoon (despite the heat!). I hope the remaining time with Frank in the Army goes by as quickly as possible and I wish him a safe return!

We really enjoyed using the Knights' beautiful backyard!! Thank you to them for always being so generous and great friends. They have such beautiful landscaping. Just PERFECT for photos.

Aubrey is such a beautiful pregnant woman! She is glowing. We had so much fun a couple of weeks ago during her maternity session. We switched locations three times and her hubby, Chris, joined in at the end since he was just returning from a work trip. My camera loved Aubrey! She has the cutest little belly and those blue eyes just pop! She is such a sweet friend too so I took advantage of this opportunity to hangout. Aubrey & I used to run together when we worked in the same department and when we were on the same schedule but things got switched up and now our schedules are very different. I can't wait to meet the Tyson baby and I am so happy for Aubrey & Chris!

Family portraits are so important to me. Of course, this probably doesn't surprise you that I'm saying this - I mean, I AM a pro photographer. But seriously, capturing how your kids grow & change over the years is a big deal! Maybe this is such a big deal to me because I'm a middle child and I got gypped when it comes to photos. My own mother doesn't even have photos of her kids 'growing up' in the house. And she only has photos of her grand-kids because I have given them to her and basically made her display them. My Nana (her mom) is the same way. I'm really glad that is one trait I did not inherit! Maybe this is another reason that I have SO many photo displayed in my own home (poor husband). I just think its great when I walk into someone's home and see years of photos displayed in coffee table albums or on the wall. Its fabulous. Just look at this family below. They are beautiful! Big brother Cooper and Baby Judah - man, aren't they precious? Capturing this special time for the Ruckart family was a blast! Cooper was so much fun and Judah was the epitome of a "Gerber Baby". Roberts Family

Have I mentioned how much I love this job? Well, I do! I love capturing special moments for families and I truly enjoy sharing the 1-2 hours getting to know people, their personalities and their stories. The Roberts family was definitely one of those families that I will always remember. They were so kind during our session and you could tell that they are just good people. I enjoyed meeting them and taking Evie's 1 year portraits. Amanda told me a story about their first attempt for 1 year portraits at one of those "mall" portrait studios. Evie was clinging to her mother (understood!) and didn't warm up to the people taking the photos so they suggested the Roberts family reschedule. Just another reason that I appreciate what I do best! Evie was just perfect and if you are patient with kids and let them do their thing, they will warm up to you. This is another reason why I prefer to do a combination of 'studio' and outdoor shots. What kid would prefer to be in-front of a backdrop with lights in their face? I don't know any! But if you get them used to the camera while they are having fun & being a kid, you get the best shots and I feel that is what happened on this (rainy) Saturday morning in May.

A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing Mackenzie & Derek's wedding in Charleston SC. It was a gorgeous weekend! The Blue Angels flew over Charleston Marina while Mackenzie was getting her makeup done. It was awesome. These two are such a beautiful couple and you can really tell that they have close family & friends that truly care about them. A special thank you to one of my biggest fans, Amy, for referring me to Mackenzie last year and a huge thank you to Mackenzie and Derek for including me in their special day. Paxton 2 year Portraits

I am sure there are many of you out there that have watched this little boy grow up if you've been following my work or are a fan of Split Second Photography, you will be amazed at how big he looks in his cowboy outfit. I always joke about Paxton being the most photographed child on the planet because his mom is not only one of my biggest fans, she's also one of my best friends! Doesn't hurt to have a photographer as a best friend, does it? Well, while I was in Charleston to shoot Mackenzie & Derek's wedding (stay tuned for those photos), I also shot Paxton's 2 year portraits. His 2 year old party is going to be "Hoe Down" themed and Amy wanted to display some photos at his party and have people sign a matted photo. I can't believe how big he is getting and although he has had some "terrible 2 moments" lately, they are few & far between and he is seriously one of the most sweetest and laid back toddlers I know.

Pierce -- 1 month

Ok -- actually 6 weeks, but we did the best we could do trying to find a time that worked for Pierce's one month photos! Its so cool to look at his newborn photos and these together. You can already see all of the changes a baby makes in such a short amount of time. Another reason why I encourage all of you parents to make sure you have the professional photos taken! Note: I also encourage all of the snapshots you take everyday with your own cameras! :)
Pierce is such a sweet, mild-mannered baby and he LOVES to be naked (understatement of the century). He also LOVES to spit up.

The note that Jenny left for her mom one night -- right after she realized she was pregnant. Hmmm. I wonder what the signs were?

Douglas Charles' 1st Birthday

About six months ago I received an email from a friend of a friend on Facebook asking if I wanted to partner with her *incredible* stationary business and two other area businesses for a marketing giveaway. I was excited for an opportunity to market Split Second Photography so of course I accepted. Little did I know that the this friend of a friend would become such a good friend in such a short amount of time. Alison owns The English Pea and she designs her own adorable kids stationary, note cards, calling cards, luggage tags, etc! If you have a kid or are going to a baby shower you should check her out at www.theenglishpea.com. Over the last 6 months I have been to at least 4 baby showers so her stuff has become my 'go to gift'. I love it! Anyway, her son Douglas Charles celebrated his 1st birthday a couple of weeks ago and was also baptized. Alison threw a great get together with friends and family to celebrate this special time which is where I captured the memories below. Check out her beautiful red-headed daughter. We have a special red-headed bond and Alison tells me that Charlotte asks for "Miss Suzie to come over and play" which totally melts my heart. I can only hope that I will have a red-headed child one day!! :) Another exciting thing to mention is that Douglas Charles took his first steps at his first birthday party. He literally walked for the first time (by himself) in front of his family and friends! I was so excited to be there to capture that exciting time! I mean, how awesome is it when you have a professional photographer in the right place at the right time? :)

This one is my favorite from the day. I seriously laugh out loud every time I see it. I have only been to 3 1st birthday parties in my life but 2 of the 3 consisted of the guest of honor with their finger in their nose the whole time. Must be a one year old thing...actually, now that I think about it, both of the nose pickers were boys.

Two weeks ago I had my first twin photo session. I was sooo excited to say the least. These kids are precious! Paxton & Paisley are one month in these photos and their older brother, Jaxson, is 2. He has the funniest laugh I've ever heard. Its the biggest laugh i've ever heard out of a 2 year old and it's really 'deep'. cracks me up. I can't imagine having twins and a 2 year old but this family seems to be laid-back and just going with the flow. I loved that about taking these photos. I hope you enjoy these as much as I do!

Pierce Dean -- Newborn

Pierce Dean Wilson was born on February 7th and these photos were taken just a week later on the 14th. There is something so very special about a baby's first week. They make the cutest faces and you curl them up into the most adorable positions. Well, I should say MOST babies. Pierce is not a fan of his stomach so not too many 'butt shots' of sweet Pierce. Isn't he the cutest? I've seen A LOT of babies and he is definitely up there in the top 3 best looking babies I've ever seen. He might even be #1 but don't tell my other friends/family. There is also something so incredible about watching a close friend become a mother. Its inspiring and heart-melting (if that makes sense). Although Pierce had only been in Jenny's life for a week at this point, it was so beautiful watching her interact with him and seeing the pure love in his face when he realized his mother was near. This is one of those things that makes this job so priceless. I encourage all of you out there to have professional photographs taken of your newborns. These are the times you will want to remember...and while we're on the topic, I think you should go ahead and plan on newborn, one month, 3 mths, 6 mths, 9 mths & then every year there after! You will not regret it.

Kirstin & Matthew Maternity Photos

A couple of weeks ago I took these maternity photos of Kirstin & Matthew. There are not too many couples out there that love each other so much that you can feel it when you look at photos but I think that these two are definitely one of those couples. They have been a couple for as long as I've known them. I worked with Matthew in the print shop at Berry for 4 years and met (his then girlfriend) Kirstin in Spanish class. A couple of years later we traveled to Spain together (which is where I met my husband). I guess what I'm trying to say is that I've known them both for 8 years or so now and there love and support for one another really astounds me sometimes. They are such a sweet couple and I was honored to take these photos to commemorate this special time for them. I know Samuel is going to be one lucky kid to be surrounded by this much true love.

A couple of weeks ago I did a photo session with Myka. She turned one that weekend and so what better time for a photo session? I had the best time with her. She is so calm and pretty much let me do whatever I wanted! Gotta love that! :) I also got to use my little ladder that I bought for a prop. I've been envisioning a toddler that can't quite walk using it since she could use it to hold herself up. How gorgeous is she? Seriously! I should also apologize for taking photos of her crying because it makes it look like she was pitching a fit. Well, she was not! She fell off a chair in the living room and only cried those crocodile tears for just a few minutes. I couldn't help but take those photos of her. I love the one of the tear close-up.That's one thing about really good looking kids, they look great while they are crying too. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them.

While one of my best friends Kelli and her husband, Matt, had Nolan on December 12th. Needless to say I took a gazillion photos of those babies and I love them both so dearly. I love newborn babies. They are so peaceful (most of the time). They have unconditional love (as I do for them). :)
Capturing this very special time for a family is one of the most exciting parts of my job. There is so much emotion when a new baby is born. They are so tiny and they curl up into the cutest little balls. These moments are over very quickly. It seems like I blink and they are crawling! This is why its very important to take newborn photos within the first 10-15 days. You want to remember these special moments and they will be over in a Split Second!

Colley Family Portraits

A couple of weeks before Christmas I got together with the Colley family for a portrait session. Erin had the fantastic idea of making photo albums for her family for Christmas. (the PERFECT gift -- if you ask me. ;) Anyway, I had so much fun with all of them! I don't think I've laughed that hard during a shoot in a really long time. Her Mimi was just adorable. I just love grandparents. Maybe its because I only have one grandmother (my mom's mom) that I really know. My dad's dad left when he was little, My mom's dad passed away before I was born and I only remember seeing my Dad's mom a handful of times before she passed away a couple of years ago. I just think extended family is so important! Bigger the better, right?
Back to the session -- It was cold (well, not AS cold as its been the last couple of days!!) but definitely one of the first cold days of the winter and they were great sports during their hour long session. After meeting Erin's parents, I can definitely see where she gets her amazing personality. Erin is so fun-loving, caring and funny - and so are her parents!
There is something just so special about a family that is as close as they are. As I edited the photos from this day I found myself slightly jealous. I don't think I could pay my older brothers (or my dad for that matter) to do an hour long photo session with the family. BUT as I mentioned in my last post, I still plan on trying to make that happen. :)
A very special thanks to the Colley Fam (& especially Erin) for such a fun day! I truly enjoyed it.

Arnold Family Portraits

Ahhhh. Family. What a beautiful thing.
I've always loved family photos -- which is funny because I really don't have any of my own.
I am number 3 of 4 children. I always give my mom a hard time about the lack of photos around the house. I love walking into homes and seeing years of photos plastered all over the walls. It makes me smile. Maybe the lack of photos in my parents' house is what I'm making up for in our home. I think that's one of the only great things I can think of right now about owning a large home (as I should be cleaning) -- Is all of the room for photos! I am already planning a huge wall of client photos all around the staircase that goes to our basement!! Well, I think my mom is getting a little bit better about putting some photos in their home. She does have a select few of the grandchildren, only because I forced them on her. ha! Its funny. I don't get it. Why wouldn't you just LOVE to have those special moments plastered all over your house? To each his own -- as my brother-in-law would say.
With that said, my wonderful massage therapist (yeah, you heard me right! I have serious back/neck/hip issues and I'm not even 30!) has a beautiful family! Her kids made me laugh so many times during this shoot. Austin is such a teenage boy. He basically refused to smile. Little did he know that I have been around a number of teenage boys in my lifetime. The trick -- Flirt with them -- INSTANT smiles. :) hahahaha. Jada & Isabella really "worked" the camera which makes my job so incredibly fun. AND the pure love that Kathleen and Neil share is just beautiful!

Derek & Mackenzie

I have been photographing engaged couples for about 5 years now and Its seriously one of my favorite things to do. Its an important part of my pre-wedding preparation. I want the couples to get used to me and to be comfortable around the camera. I've always thought that engagement photos were important but it wasn't until my own wedding, a few years back, that I realized just how important they really are! I look back on our engagement photos (well, they are pretty much plastered all over the house so there really isn't much "looking back" involved! ha) and I remember the day. Just being able to spend a couple of hours with your soon-to-be husband, walking around, holding hands, laughing and having it all caught on camera. Its priceless stuff. Now, I have the pleasure of capturing these moments for other couples. I find pure joy in preserving those memories that are over in a split second ! Some people have wondered why I named my company Split Second. When they first hear the name they often wonder --but I truly feel that once my clients see the images from their special day...they just know.

Enjoy these photos from Mackenzie & Derek's Engagement session. It is almost "crunch time" for them. What a special time!! I know they will look back on these photos for many years to come and be thankful that this day was captured in still images.

Jax & Family

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing a sweet little boy named Jax along with his beautiful family, Christina, Chris and Charlie (their sweet adopted dog who is great with Jax!).
I have a great time at every session but each one is different. I love capturing true personalities in my photos but one of the greatest pleasures I have is looking at my completed work -- sitting back -- & smiling! :) This is what happened when I finished editing the photos you see below. Jax just has this precious personality that emanates through these photos. He made me laugh so many times on that beautiful fall afternoon and I can definitely see why this family is so happy.
